The long road north

Norway in June means the sun barely sets, which sounds like a photographer's dream until you realize it also means you never quite feel like it's time to stop driving.

What I'd do differently

Book fewer stops. I planned this trip like a shot list and it fought me the whole way — the best frame of the trip was a pull-off that wasn't on the itinerary at all.

What I'd keep

The long, boring stretches between stops turned out to be where most of the actual thinking happened. Not every part of the trip needs to produce a photograph to be worth the drive.
