The Problem
Swiss military recruits on Android had no dedicated, effective way to memorize military ranks. While iOS users already had a great tool for learning and practicing thanks to Lukman Ascic, Android users were left without a comparable alternative.
The Solution
Insignia provides an easy and engaging way to learn the military ranks and functions recruits may encounter during their service in the Swiss Military. The app also includes an interactive quiz that lets users test their knowledge and reinforce their learning, making it easier to memorize the ranks.

The Overview tab lets users browse all the emblems they may encounter during their service.

Clicking on an emblem provides detailed information about the corresponding rank, function, or branch.

The Rank Quiz helps users test their knowledge of military ranks and identify areas for improvement.
Development Process
Mockup & Design
The design was inspired by the talented Lukman Ascic who created and published Insignia for IOS
Development
Once the design was ready, I started turning the mockups into code. Along the way, I had to make adjustments and rethink certain details that worked in the design but didn't translate perfectly to the actual App.
User Testing
To publish my app on the Google Play Store, I had to run a closed test with 12 users who needed to test it daily for 14 straight days so the timer wouldn't reset. It was quite a hassle, but I'm glad it worked on the first try.
